Fortune Race

Fortune Race is a client-based project with Student Services Department (SSD). The aim of this project is to raise awareness on bullying of various kinds, also known as "bullying because of differences.” We as human beings each have our own personalities, and abilities. We are all different in our own ways. However, these differences also divides us because of typical stereotypes created by mankind which leads to bullying among those who believe that they are superior than others.

Firstly, I reused my research from the I Wont Be Silent project and added a few extra research towards the newer version of the “bullying” situation. As the clients wanted a stereotypical-type bullying, I did a few research about stereotypes in Malaysia.

First, I branched out the different kinds of bullying, which includes:

  • Cyberbullying

  • Disability bullying

  • Gay bullying

  • Legal bullying

  • Military bullying

  • Parental bullying

  • Prison bullying

  • School bullying

  • Sexual bullying

  • Trans bullying

  • Workplace bullying

From the branched out list, I pick out those that is applicable towards students and staffs of INTI. Cyberbullying, disability, gay, parental, school, sexual, tans, and workplace bullying are the few chosen ones that needed awareness. From this branched out list, I digged deeper to understand the stereotypes faced within this category. Some basic stereotypes that fits the category includes:

  • Skin colour

  • Disability

  • Education

  • Gender

  • Win or lose

  • Hierarchy

  • Social status

  • Intellectual

  • Body image

  • Personality

Once I had a clear idea on the information that I wanted to raise awareness on, I had another meeting with the clients.

After the meeting and being able to update them on my progress, I started the project by doing some sketches. I needed to understand the design style that I wanted to go with for my project. The project that I would be doing in creating a set of 30 cards that would state a positive or negative stereotype on it while playing on a life-size game board.

To start of the sketches for the cards, I listed out a few variations for each of the 10 category stated earlier.

After drafting the cards, I started to think about the life-size game board. The clients measured the allocated space and gave me the measurements to give an approx. size of the game board. I decided to go with 6ft x 6ft so that it will not look too big/small for the participants. I also had to draft out the objectives of the game for the board.

Once I had drafted all the designs, I transferred to digital and printed out the final outcome.
